Javier Íscar de Hoyos is a leading jurist in commercial arbitration, with a distinguished track record in dispute resolution both in Spain and internationally. Managing Partner at Íscar Arbitraje, he has acted exclusively as an arbitrator since 2018.
His areas of specialization include banking law, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), insurance, construction, engineering development, franchising, and international acquisition and supply contracts (EPC). Over the course of his career, he has served as an arbitrator in more than 30 international arbitrations under the rules of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the Madrid Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Court, the Arbitration Court of the Madrid Bar Association, the Barcelona Arbitration Tribunal, the Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Center of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, CIAM-CIAR, and CAM Santiago, among others.
In banking and finance, Íscar has participated in arbitrations involving contractual breaches, debt restructurings, disputes over financial derivatives, and conflicts related to bank guarantees. In the field of M&A, he has handled disputes concerning price adjustment clauses, breaches in the execution of share purchase agreements, and post-transaction conflicts. In insurance, his experience includes disputes over policy coverage, large-scale claims, and contractual liability.
In the engineering and construction sector, Íscar has arbitrated disputes related to major infrastructure projects, including claims involving EPC contract performance, project delays, cost overruns, and construction defects. His in-depth knowledge of international contracts allows him to effectively address complex disputes in energy, transport, and industrial development projects.
His practice spans both institutional and ad hoc arbitrations, always promoting efficiency and legal certainty in the resolution of commercial disputes.
